I <3 NYC!!!!!

So I'm back from the Big Apple and let me tell you -- I am way more than ready to move there. I had an amazing time. Saw a few celebrities and got introduced to one very cool one. I met Chris Noth --- from "Law & Order" and Mr. Big on "Sex and the City." I think I can die happy now.

Saw wonderful shows - 4 in all compacted into 3 days. Thursday night David and I went to Spamalot. The Bibbs and Desta were there too so we all went for dessert after the show. Great show can't imagine what it would have been like with the original cast. Friday met up with Laura O. We tried to get standing room at Chicago (I only wanted to see it for Bebe anyway) but ended up walking across the street and getting standing room tickets to another show.

And that shows was ---- Spring Awakening! Absolutely gorgeous. I bought the CD the next day. It had some things that still need to be worked on and I wouldn't call it "The Next Rent" but it was very good, very honest, and very thought-provoking. The music is haunting. There is some heavy subjects and brief nudity so don't take the kids. It is so a show that will never come to the bible belt so I'm glad I saw it there. Plus it was the original cast. They've only been open for like 3 months so come Tony time i'm excited to see how they do.

Saturday I ran around the city with Emily G. I won the last pair of lottery tickets to Avenue Q. So fun and funny. Of course I knew all the songs so I generally sang along. It was fun to see what actually happens in the show after having the CD for so long.

Later in the evening David and I ran to like 5 theaters trying to get tickets to an evening performance. We really wanted to see Curtains but they didn't sell out so no cheap standing room only expensive partial views left. Interesting to not sell out on a Saturday night of Opening weekend after weeks of previews. And it is a Kander & Ebb show starring David Hyde Pierce. I'm worried this one won't do so well.

Eventually we got standing room at Spelling Bee. I loved the show. Very cute and lively and with audience participation. Wonderful excentric characters. The theater is very small so all seats are great and it is done in three quarter/thrust stage. Best standing room of all the shows I saw. This would be a wonderful show to do in the playhouse when it becomes available.

Saw Central Park, rode the subway (by myself), and toured MoMA (BTW it is free on Friday nights), and generally had the time of my life. I hated having to fly home the Sunday but definitely will be back. Can't wait to see more shows.

Two Weeks...and counting!

So I way uber excited. Why you ask? Well I will be on a plane to NYC in two weeks. AAAAHHHHHH!!! It is only for a few days but I can't wait to see - shows, museums, a broadway show, maybe a ballet, and all those friends that have moved there in recent years. Anyway I had to share. Let me know if any of you know of some "don't miss it" kind of things and activities in the Big Apple.

Sorry it has been awhile. Surely no one is reading this but if you are thanks. Life is going great. I thought I would be bored out of my mind with no rehearsals going on, but no I'm busy almost every night of the week with a social life. It is fabulous. I highly encourage it. I'm glad I finally got off my butt and did something fun. Okay alot of fun things but who is counting. I'm still teaching classes but happy that I don't have to live at a theater. Cuts down on catching the "playhouse crud" so much as well. Ha! Hope your new year is going just as swimmingly as mine. TTFN!

How You Feel About Christmas...

I love Christmas...maybe not as much as some, but I do love all the music, lights, and food...and the decorations my dear, the decorations. I have many decorations mostly from 10 years solid of being in The Nutcracker. And now with A Christmas Carol there is even more stuff.

Sadly my box of stuff fell off its shelf in my closet several times breaking many mementos of these past shows. I was a little heart broken at losing some of these as they were hand made and completely irreplaceable. Some were just funny the way they broke. For instance, I had a mini nativity set of the family (Joseph, Mary, and baby) that had just the Joseph broken off. I guess he was a little useless, ha! The best is the caroler family that had the man lose his head. He now carries it on his book of carols. I'm tempted to not glue it back on it is so funny (pic below). BTW, we named him Kevin.
